This year's Spookarama is Friday, October 29th, 5:30 – 8:00 PM!
If you know of any fifth- to eighth-grade student volunteers who would like to earn two community service hours by helping at Spook-A-Rama, please have them contact our student coordinator parent Kelly Rice. There are two time slots available for students for the night of the event (4:45 - 6:45 PM or 6:30 - 8:30 PM). Students will not be allowed to work more than one shift, but they do get a free pizza dinner for their efforts. Students can help serve food, decorate, supervise games or clean up.
On Monday, large parent volunteer sign-up posters will be placed in both BCS campus lobbies. Please sign up for one or more volunteer shifts. Room parents, please do what you can to help ensure that these important slots get filled.
Parent Elona Landau is working with the BCS PTA to provide weekly yoga classes for the BCS community. A percentage of all class fees will go towards the BCS PTA Technology fund. Help yourself and help the school!
Below are the proposed PTA standing rules for this school year. The rules will be amended as necessary and voted upon at the September 21 general meeting.

Every year the PTA sells Chinook Books as a fundraiser. Chinook Books cost $20 and we get to keep $10 of each book sold! This is an easy way to raise money for the school to help support our classrooms. We would love it if each family could sell just 5 books. Last year we earned approximately $3500. Let's top that this year and break $4000.
This year Chinook Books have an added bonus. Included in each book is a coupon for an iPhone/iPad app worth $16. Use the coupon code in the Chinook Book to download the app for free. When you are out and about, you can pull up the coupon on your iPhone and show it to the cashier or waitress and use the coupon this way. Then, when you do remember the hard copy of the coupon, you can use it as well. No more fretting about not remembering the coupon. Plus, it's like getting two Chinook Books for the price of one! Don't have an iPhone? That's okay, you can give the coupon to someone who does.
It’s true - buying Scrip through our Scrip program is free, easy and allows us to raise money for our school without Beverly Cleary School families donating money to the school themselves.
What is Scrip?
Scrip is just another word for gift cards that businesses sell to the PTA at a discount.
You are cordially invited to the Beverly Cleary School Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, September 7, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM on the Fernwood playground.
This will be a fun evening where you and your children can get reacquainted with friends and families of BCS while eating ice cream and playing on the playground. Your Beverly Cleary School PTA Board will be doing all the work scooping ice cream and cleaning up. Board members will be available to answer questions about membership, scrip sales and other PTA sponsored events.
Your online shopping can do double-duty, making it an effortless way to help your PTA raise classroom funds, even during summer break.
Just to the left of these words, you'll find three of our ongoing PTA fundraisers: Amazon.com, Powell's Books and magazine subscriptions.
Any Amazon.com purchases you make will bring your BCS PTA a 7% referral commission, Powell's will give us a 7.5% commission and magazine subscriptions allow us to keep 40% of the proceeds.
Please keep this in mind as you do your online shopping and please let your friends and family know!
Have you got some extra clothing cluttering your closets? Or a few too many tennis rackets in your garage? Or maybe that college art piece needs a new home? Put your clutter to work for Beverly Cleary School!
This year's sale will be held on Friday, June 18 at the Fernwood campus. Your donations are tax deductible and all proceeds from the sale go to the Beverly Cleary PTA. You will be able to bring your items to school the week of the sale. Start cleaning house this weekend!
Donating Items
Our next PTA General Meeting will be on Thursday, May 13th from 6:30-8:30 in the BCS Fernwood cafeteria. School counselor Cynthia Thomas will be giving a presentation on bullying and cyber bullying. We will also be electing next year's officers and encourage all members to attend the meeting and vote! Many thanks to our nominating committee -- Barbara Smith Warner, Sam Shiffman, John Tapogna, Susan Crabtree Eades and Christine Putnam. The list of nominees is below and has also been posted on our website and on both campuses. Thanks also to those volunteering to serve next year!
