October has arrived, and it will soon be time for Spookarama!
Our school's annual Halloween carnival will arrive at the Fernwood campus on Friday, October 28th from 5:30PM-8:00PM. All Beverly Cleary School students and their families are welcome and encouraged to attend. There will be games and activities, pizza and salad from Bellagio's, assorted beverages, Karaoke, glow necklaces, a Fortune Teller....and our world-famous Cakewalk! Last year this event raised over $3400, which the PTA uses to buy books, classroom supplies, and many other items requested by teachers and parents for the school.
While it is not the largest fund-raising project for our school, it is without a doubt our largest FUN-raiser, and it depends on a lot of volunteer participation among our parents and older students. It is not too early to think about how you can help. There are loads of opportunities to help before and during the event:
-
Volunteer for one, two, or three hours the day of Spookarama. We will need a lot of volunteers to decorate the school and set up the games during the school day on October 28th, and many more people to help sell tickets, serve food, monitor games, and have fun! Please click here to sign up.
-
Donate bakery items to serve as Cakewalk prizes. Consider buying cakes, pies, or cupcakes now and freeze them until the event. Another way you can help is to buy a scrip gift card from Kroger/Fred Meyer/QFC and donate it to the the PTA for the Spookarama committee to buy baked goods for the Cakewalk. (Due to PPS regulations we cannot use any homemade pastries.)
-
Students can earn community service hours and get a free pizza dinner! Fifth- through eighth-graders can work either a 5-7 PM or 6:30-8:30 PM shift. A sign-up board will be placed in the second floor hallway at Fernwood on or about October 14th. If students wishing to volunteers have any questions in the meantime, they may contact parent volunteer Dana Bozarth.
Please make time to help, even if it's only for one hour. This event depends heavily on volunteers. If you cannot donate a cake or help the day of the event, there are a variety of small errands that need to be done between now and October 28th, so if that is your preference please contact one of the Spookarama Parent Co-chairs, Sam Shiffman or Vanessa Kuschner.
