UPDATE: Our Run for the Arts event has been postponed; it will now be held on April 13th.
Soon our students will be asking their friends and family (some will ask neighbors, too) to sponsor them as they participate in a "fun run" that directly benefits their experiences in the arts at Beverly Cleary School. The Run for the Arts is scheduled for April 6th, with a make-up day (if it’s raining on 4/6) on April 13th. Students run around the track at Grant.
Thanks to the participants and their sponsors, Beverly Cleary School has been able to provide different kinds of arts experiences for our students to reinforce the integration of the arts into their classroom curriculum. Additionally, we have been able to provide extra curricular opportunities in the arts for our students.
Each teacher is given a portion of our funds to use at his/her discretion. Additionally, some of the funds are reserved for the entire school community. As you begin to decide how you, your friends and family can support those opportunities through sponsorship of the students, I thought it would be helpful if you had examples of what your support from last year's Run provided this school year. At this writing, here are just a few ways that support has been or will be utilized:
Tickets to various theatrical productions (K,1,3,5,7)
“My Oregon Report” (fourth grade artist-in-residence with Ralph Nelson)
“Ramona Quimby” (6th, 7th and 8th grade artist-in-residence with Carolyn Delany Reif)
"Portland: A Musical" (third grade artist-in-residence with Ralph Nelson)
Symphony tickets for 3rd graders
Artist-in-residence, Mark Brody, who will work with 8th graders on a mosaic
Two Family Arts Nights (Rainbow Dance Co. and Trashcan Joe)
Artist-in-residence, Rick Meyers, “Trails” (4th)
As you can see, thanks to the support of friends and family, our students and this community have been able to receive opportunities during the year they probably would have to fulfill outside of school if it weren't for our annual Run For The Arts event. All of us can see how the arts enrich our lives. It is for this reason, we are hopeful our students will continue to enjoy the benefit of your sponsorship.
