Scholastic Book Fair at both campuses next week.  Fernwood campus sign-ups are full, but we still need a few more volunteers for the Hollyrood site.

Teachers at the Fernwood campus could use some more parent volunteer help in with classroom projects.

Agenda item: Treasurer’s report

See Addendum 1, Financial Statement.

Agenda item: Vice Presidents’ Reports

Speaker:  Kathie Eastman-Tell, PTA Vice-President

Grant Committee distribu7ted $9,450, in addition to $300 from the 3rd Grade Start-up Fund and $2,277 from the Technology Fund.  There was a large request from school administration for copy paper.  Rather than funding this request, we decided to ask parents to donate paper.  School Secretary Roseanne Malmstrom requested a laptop computer but PTA did not fund this.

Agenda item:  Guest Speaker, Patrick Donaldson of Hollywood BoostersPortland has 40 business districts.  Hollywood Boosters has been around since the 19th century.  I would like to have a copy of that list of unfunded teacher grant requests because I believe some Booster members would like to provide these items for the school, especially the copy paper. Some time ago the old “Pancho’s” property at 3390 NE Sandy Blvd. became “La Fortuna”.  It has been closed for several years.  Recently the new owners have applied for a liquor license from the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC).  These owners’ past history with their other business ventures leaves the Boosters with the impression that this property could become an “adult theme” business.  We will know more after their OLCC hearing in December or January. The Boosters are not a political group, and we have never supported or opposed any ballot measure.

Agenda item:  Guest Speaker, Kathy Couch of Defend Oregon. (This will be part of the Legislative Chair Report)

We recently changed the name to “YES for Oregon” to make it easier for voters to remember that they should vote YES on ballot measures 66 & 67, rather than “defending Oregon against” these measures and thereby voting NO.Measures 66 & 67 will preserve almost $1 billion in the current biennial budget if they pass in the Special Election coming up in January.  There will be an “I Love My Teacher” canvassing event this Sunday, and phone banks will be set up as we near the election date. Agenda item:  Guest Speaker, Karen Weisz, President of Special Education PTA of Portland (SEPTAP).SEPTAP advocates for students across PPS who need special services in their school.  All SEPTAP General Meetings are at Beverly Cleary.  We hope to see you at our next meeting.
