Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn."
-   Elizabeth Lawrence

It is hard to believe that November is well underway, the clocks fell back an hour, the winds blew in, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner.   We have many things to be thankful for at Beverly Cleary.  Parents have been wonderfully supportive and have volunteered many hours this fall.  Students are energetic,
fun to be around and they are learning so much.  We have terrifically talented and dedicated staff who understands the uniqueness of each child.  I feel fortunate to work in this community.

A huge thank you goes out to Sam Shiffman and Doug McMahon, our Spookarama co-chairs.  The event was well
attended, and it was truly delightful to watch the warm interactions of our upper grade student volunteers leading
games and activities for the younger Beverly Cleary students. Also, our warmest thanks to all of the families who donated time, treats for the cakewalk and just a splendid spirit of fun for this event!

Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with you on November 23rd and 24th for Parent-Teacher Conferences.  The schedule for conferences is listed below.  Please note that due to the two evening conference times, there is no school for staff or students on Wednesday, November 25th.  Most of you have already scheduled a time to meet with your child’s teacher.  If you have not done so, please call your child’s teacher and make an appointment.  Conferences are a great way for parents and teachers to share information that will allow each student to have a successful school year. Because teachers only have a 20 minute time slot per family, you may feel slightly rushed. However, remember to relax and know that we are all here to help every child be successful!
Here are a few tips that you might find helpful in preparing for your child’s conference:

  • Make sure you know the scheduled time for your conference
  • Find out how your child feels about school (ask what he/she likes best or least and why).
  • Come prepared with specific questions for the teacher about your child’s work.
  • Ask about how your child is progressing academically and socially.
  • Listen as the teacher is sharing information about your student’s progress.
  • After the conference, share the information with your child.
  • Most importantly, relax! We have a great staff that really takes the education of your children very seriously.  They are committed to working with you!
