PTA General Meeting Minutes -- January 13, 2009

Call to order:  6:35pm 

Quorum established

 

1st item of business:  Review of minutes for last general membership meeting (11/19/08)

Minutes approved

 

2nd item of business:  Kindergarten round up

Speaker:  Abbie Rankin

Discussion:  Kindergarten round-up is February 12 from 6:30-8 at Hollyrood.

 

3rd item of business:  Stand for Children Rally

Speaker:  Susan Crabtree

Discussion:  Kid friendly buses will transport families to Salem for rally on President's day. Rally is from 10:30-2:30.

 

4th item of business:  Community/Parents Partnership with Schools (CPPS) Conference

Speaker: Craig Williams

Discussion:  Carole Smith and Sam Adams are speaking

 

5th item of business:  SUN program update

Speaker: Corrie

Discussion:  Lindsay King took a promotion w/Portland Impact. There has already been assigned a new supervisor. Thanks to the PTA for funding for SUN school newspaper funding.

 

6th item of business:  Garden update

Speaker:  Lynn Raube

Discussion:  Grant proposal is being written. Meeting w/Metro has occurred. Please email Lynn with further questions.

            Backfield is being taken care of and irrigation system is getting coordinated. Irrigation will supply water for raised beds.

 

7th item of business:  Planners

Speaker:  Melissa Dragich

Discussion:  There is a "green" alternative to current planner, but it is $1.50 more for each one.

Susan Rice makes motion for PTA to supply $500 extra for green planners for 5th-8th grades. Motion amended to: If staff and administration decide green planners are optimal, PTA will provide $500 extra to purchase for 5th-8th grades.

8th item of business:  Foundation report

9th item of business:  Vice Presidents report

Speakers:  Anita McKey

Discussion:  Thank you to Cynthia M and students for bringing in food for the holidays.

 

10th item of business:  Volunteer coordinators report

Speaker:  Lori Faha

Discussion:   Pizzacato deadline, Principal coffee chat, vision and health screenings, Project 2nd Wind, Women's History Month

 

11th item of business:  Treasurer's report

Speaker:  Nancy Drinnon

Discussion:  Pizzacato, Scrip, Amazon and Powell's are all ongoing fundraisers

 

12th item of business:  Grant Committee

Speaker:   Kathie Tell

Discussion:  $10,000 is upper limit for funding, although less will probably be awarded. Specifics are on website for how fall grant was distributed.

 

13th item of business:  Nominating committee

Speaker:  Sam Shiffman

Discussion: Elections for PTA board for 2009-2010 will be held at the last general membership meeting. If you are considering running for the board, please contact Andrew Ryall Briggs, Jenny Shea or Doug McMahon.  Especially if you want to be president!

 

14th item of business:  Vision Statement

Speaker:  Carol Shrader

Discussion:  Parent/Adult Family Representative (PARFR) Action statement for Beverly Cleary School. Carol will provide more information when everything is compiled.

 

15th item of business:  Questions to Principal and Assistant Principal

Speaker:  Sam Shiffman

Discussion:  Lunch trays in progress. Downspouts are not disconnected due to lack of $3000.
